See You on the Square/Notes from Your Better Hometown Program
Springtime in Monticello
It’s spring time in Monticello and some of the most beautiful blooms in the world are expressing themselves in yards all over town.
All that Beauty! A beauty that is one of the key reasons visitors come to see Monticello. They come to experience Mother Nature’s beauty and splendor that frames Monticello’s small town natural charm.
Visitors come to photograph, sightsee, and get a little taste of our town on their journeys through the Historic Heartland (we’re part of the region).
These visitors, Monticello, are our tourists. They love our city. They come to the Visitors’ Center to get information on where to eat, what sights to see, and maybe just a little bit of our history.
We all have a part to play in this Spring time ritual. It is up to us to give each and everyone of them a warm, genuine Monticello welcome and offer suggestions on where to eat, shop, or simply browse around the Square.
When they spend dollars with us it helps to boost our local economy, and most importantly they will remember with a smile the small town of Monticello—home to some superstars in music, science, sports, arts & crafts, agriculture, business and humanity—that gave them such a big welcome when they stopped to admire the beauty and quaintness of the little town that shares its name with President Jefferson’s estate.
Let’s extend a welcome also, to our new residents. Welcome to Monticello and Jasper County! Our community is thrilled to have you here. Please, if you need anything at all, just ask one of us. Call 706.468.8994 for information on services and upcoming events.
All this talk about Spring makes me long for the start of activities on the Square. The grass is even starting to go green, letting us know its getting ready to play its part. Soon we’ll start to nurture it and get it healthy and strong for the year’s events and add blooms at the base of the Monument too.
The month of May will be loaded with planned activities for the Square (watch for notices).
Activities scheduled for early May in Monticello include a free Gospel Concert at the Rose Bowl field on Saturday, May 6, sponsored by Monticello Baptist Church, featuring gospel singer Babbie Mason and the Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Golf Tournament on May 3 at Hunter Pope County Club.
May’s mid-month activities include the opening of Market on the Square; a tribute to our Veterans at the Catfish ‘n Blues Memorial Fest; the Hot Air Balloon Festival; and a “Mommy and Me'” brown bag lunch to honor Mother’s Day.
Sounds like fun….See You on the Square!
