Bobcat Found on Post Road
While returning from an animal control call on Post Road last Wed-nesday, April 12, Officer Elizabeth Rolfe came upon a bobcat that had been struck by a vehicle. The animal was still alive, but died before officer Rolfe got back to the animal control building.
According to the Animal Control Office, they have had numerous reports from that area of attacks on livestock. Initially, these attacks were thought to have been dogs and several dogs were being watched, however, they now believe the bobcat and others like it are at least partially responsible for the attacks.
The animal picked up was approximately five to six months old and weighed 35 pounds, said Ms. Rolfe. Bobcats usually have litters of four to six and a mature animal can weigh up to 50 pounds.
Animal Control is of the opinion there is a family of bobcats in the area numbering from six to seven. Traps have been placed and it is requested that anyone seeing one of the animals to please call the animal control office at 706-468-4940.
