Police Chief’s Garbage Bill Is Paid
Monticello Police Chief Dan Norris has settled his case with Jasper County in regards to curbside garbage services, having paid in full nearly two months ago.
Chief Norris agreed to a settlement early this year. He was scheduled for trial the week of February 13, but County Attorney John Nix advised the court he was in settlement negotiations with Mr. Norris at that time.
Mr. Norris made one payment in February, and the second payment was to be made one month later.
He mailed the first payment to Mr. Nix’s Conyers office. Apparently Mr. Nix was holding that check until he had the final one so he could file the papers in court to dismiss the suit. Mr. Norris made the second payment on March 10 in the curbside office in Monticello.
Mr. Nix was not aware of the payment made in Monticello, and was preparing to pursue the payment through the courts.
When this paper ran a story last week saying Mr. Norris was scheduled for trial, as the court record indicated, Mr. Norris called and said he had paid the bill in full. Mr. Nix confirmed that, explaining to the County Commission on Monday what had transpired.
