Chris Bridges Wins Awards

Monticello native Chris Bridges was recently recognized for his work with The Banks County News by the Georgia Press Association and the Georgia Sports Writers Association.

Bridges’ sports section for The Banks County News was named third in its division by the Georgia Press Association during its annual convention, held this year in Savannah. The judges said of the section, “Very informative stories with good colorful photos, with good layout.”

In addition, Bridges earned the award for Best Sports Column from the Georgia Sports Writers Association during the group’s annual convention last month held at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon. Bridges won first for a column written last summer about the off-season problems experienced by the University of Georgia football program. The award for was all newspapers published once, twice and three times per week.

“It’s always an honor to have your work recognized by your peers,” Bridges said.
Bridges is a reporter and columnist for The Banks County News, a publication of Mainstreet Newspapers, which is based in Jefferson. He has worked at the company since June 2005. Mainstreet Newspapers publishes four weekly papers in the Northeast Georgia area.

He also writes articles about Piedmont Academy athletics for The Monticello News and has recently began submitting an editorial column for the paper. Bridges is the son of Paul and Melba Bridges of Monticello.
