Be A Winner

I’m fixing to be a winner.

I’m fixing to yell as loud as I can. It’s okay to do that—it’s football season and we want to whip our opponents. Yelling fires up our team so they can do that.

Football is a wonderful game, it represents true democracy because it does not consider who your daddy is, which side of the tracks you’re from, whether you’re white or black, but rather what you do on the field.

It’s up to you, the player. You can just be a member of the team or you can be a hall of fame candidate, it’s up to you.

Talent, strength, speed and size does play a part, but the largest part is your heart. If you have a big heart, it outweighs all the other factors and will take you on to victory.

Having heart means being proud of your family, friends, community and your self; and refusing to accept defeat.

A player with speed and strength who doesn’t apply himself will be a weekend wonder and won’t be able to perform in the long run, but the player who mixes a little heart in with that talent will make his coach, parents, and peers proud.

We can do it, as a player, a parent or even a grandparent or booster.

We can instill that winning spirit in our children with words and action. We can convince them that they will be winners.

Besides the actions we take, we have to learn to be winners. That means refusing to accept defeat and giving the extra effort it takes to overcome defeat.

We have to teach our children to be winners in the classroom and in the parking lot, as well as on the field of competition. It all goes together—you can be a winner or a loser, it’s up to you.

Since you have a choice, why would we choose to be a loser when we can choose to be a winner?
Have some heart and be a winner. I’m fixing to be one! (PS—please let kids read this.)
