Voter Registration Deadline Is October 10
Jasper County voters may now apply for absentee ballots, and 124 already have, according to Chief Registrar Carole Norris.
All voters in the county can vote on November 7 for state representative and senator, U.S. Congressman, governor, and numerous other state offices, while some have a say in some local offices.
Voters in the city will be choosing a Mayor Pro Tem to fill the unexpired term of Otis Clark who resigned early this year That term runs through 2007. Russell Gross and Ronald James are seeking that seat.
Voters in District 1 will decide who will represent them on the Board of Education for the next four years. Currently Stacy Standifer serves on that post. She is being challenged by Bobby Norris and Sharon Campbell.
School Board members Joel Gaston, District 1, and Joy Wild, District 5, have no opposition in the November election.
Mrs. Norris said Tuesday that nine absentee ballots had been returned.
Persons who will be out of the county on election day may vote absentee in person at the Registrar’s office on the ground floor of the Courthouse through November 3.
Early voting will be available Oct. 30 through November 3. Persons who prefer to vote at that time may, even if they’re going to be in town on election day.
There will be no voting on Monday, November 6.
Sample ballots are available in the registrar’s office or Probate Court.
