Laid-off G-P Employees Head Back to Work
Georgia Pacific Plywood Plant workers are indeed headed back to work December 1, according to Jon Moss, Jr., Corporate Group Sales Manager for Plywood Products/Manufacturing.
Employees were being notified of their return this week, according to information from the company’s corporate office in Atlanta.
Georgia Pacific was acquired earlier this year by Koch Industries not Coca-Cola as listed in the November 2 edition of The News. Koch is a privately-held company based in Wichita Falls, Tex.
When 300 local plywood employees were laid off approximately five weeks ago they were given a December 1 “back-to-work” return date, said Ed Williams, Monticello Georgia Pacific Human Resource Manager, at that time.

When contacted this week to confirm the start up of the plywood plant, Mr. Williams was in the midst of personnel arbitrations and could not immediately respond.
However, G-P Plywood Representative James Perkins was able to confirm that all plant workers would be returning by Friday. Millwright and electric personnel returned to work earlier this week.
