Monticello Qualifying Set
Persons interested in serving in Monticello city government will qualify for election next week.
Candidates must pay a qualifying fee and complete a written notice of candidacy if they intend to seek election to the posts of Mayor, Mayor Pro-Tem or City Council representative.
Qualifying will take place Monday, Aug. 27 through Friday, Aug. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Qualifying fees are $108 for council; $144 for Mayor pro-tem, and $288 for Mayor.
City officials approved a raise last week, so those taking office January 1 will be eligible for health insurance, and will receive a salary of $750 a month for mayor; $600 monthly for mayor pro-tem, and council persons will be paid $450 per month.

The election will be held at the Courthouse on Tuesday, Nov. 6 when polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
