Hearings Set for Tax Cases
Nineteen cases of the Jasper County Board of Tax Assessors (BOA) versus property owners came before Judge Hugh V. Wingfield, III, on Tuesday, April 22, and he ruled the following cases would be granted a non-jury trial on May 29:
BOA versus Conway D. Thomas, Timothy W. and Marlo K. Slaughter, Charles T. and Pamela K. Burnett, Authur Allan Brittain, Larry Wayne Cason, William C. Williams and Teresa Williams, Charles O’Kelley and Tonya O’Kelley, Susan H. Stephens, Shirley Davis, and Quinton Boyd.
The judge also granted a jury trial scheduled for May 12 for the following cases:
BOA versus Robert L. Yackee Trust, Pete Williams, Thomas L. Williams, Jr., Robert Steven Thompson and Terry T. Thompson, Jeffrey A. Rolsten, Samuel Breeding and Karen Breeding, and A. J. Welch, Jr.
Also, the case versus Providence Baptist Church was settled, and Robert F. Cowan failed to appear.
On the Motion Day Calendar the probation was revoked for Travis Viondi Gantt, Charleston Russell, Jerrell Fears, and Joshua Campbell. Court records were not available on the details of the sentencing.
A motion was denied in the follow to cases:
Michael Dudley Tudor charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane and driving without a license.
Arthur Randall Freeman charged with possession of meth and tampering with evidence.
In other cases, Blackie Lee Martin pled not guilty to sexual battery and affray (fighting), Charles Ernest Hargrove plead guilty to driving without a license and obstruction of officer, and Jerrell Fears plead guilty to possession of marijuana less than one ounce, giving false information, and driving without a license.
