Play in a Golf Tournament

I’m fixing to play in a golf tournament.

It happened last Saturday at Turtle Cove in the Bank of Monticello’s annual tournament. It was a fine event with some tasty comestibles afterwards, frosty refreshments served during by those winsome ladies who work for the bank, followed by an awards ceremony with some great prizes.

Since it was a charitable tournament sponsored by the bank in support of The American Cancer Society, we really enjoyed playing for that, but also for the camaraderie with neighbors and friends and the joy of being out on a fairway with a club in your hand which you could use to really whack a ball with. It’s surprising how much frustration you can rid yourself of doing that.

I played in a great foursome. Our “A” player was Wes “The Big Stick.” There wasn’t a pine tree on that difficult and tricky little course that he couldn’t soar his ball over in the hunt for the green.

Dan “The Lawyer,” was our second big gun, and got us out of trouble on several occasions, but that’s what he’s trained to do.

Trailing behind the aforementioned was myself along with my partner, Clyde “The Glide.”

Now Clyde and I didn’t score a lot, however, I must say the team used my drive on a couple of holes and Clyde sunk a couple of putts, so we made our meager contributions to the team. At the same time we accepted our abundant share of the shame as we sliced and hooked our way around the course.

We finished at one under par, which didn’t earn us a prize to carry home with us. But the prize we won was the good time spent with good friends.

I’m fixing to sign up for next year.
