Market Festival

What happened to spring? Seems we went from very cold to very hot in no time at all. It is time, however, for our Market Festival on the Square and judging from the many calls to the Better Hometown office and the Chamber wanting to know when the Market would begin, everyone has been eagerly awaiting its return.

The Market officially opens this Saturday, May 9 at 8:30 a.m.

This year marks the fifth year the Market has been in operation and what a joy it has been to promote it at state conferences and to see the community camaraderie every Saturday morning. (The Market runs every Saturday from May to October on the Square).

Market Director David Dyer has done an outstanding job at keeping the Market going with the funds received from the initial startup grant. The Market, like the Better Hometown Program, will face some harsh realities this year in terms of funding. For the Better Hometown Program especially, we will require more community support to keep the program going.

This is a sincere plea to all of you to give your full support for all local programs as we work diligently to find funding sources through available grants and underwriters and navigate our way through these troubled economic times. Shop locally as much and as often as you can. We need to boost the economy that most affects us…the one right here in Monticello.

Look for a wide variety of vendors and entertainers at the Market this year as we continue to highlight our local talent. If you are interested in performing on the Square during the Market Festival, please contact the Better Hometown office at 706-468-1995.

The Better Hometown Program and the Market wishes all mothers a Happy Mothers Day. See you on the Square!
