City, County Officials Meet Together

Monticello Mayor Glenn Newsome, Mayor Pro Tem Russell Gross, Councilmembers Katherine Alexander and Molly Pompey, and City Manager Bob Schwartz sat down with Jasper County Commission Chairman Carl Pennamon, Commissioners Alan Cox and Ronnie Payne, and county manager Greg Williams recently to update one another on their respective concerns.

A free flowing discussion ensued after the city manger highlighted three projects in the city (budget, expansion of the water plant, and new sidewalk project) and the county manager highlighted three projects in the county (roads, solid waste, and budget).

Everyone in the group agreed that the city and county and other groups representing the city or county need to work together for many reasons, not the least of which is economic development which can be deterred if there is infighting in a community.
