Holidays
Seems everyone was getting ready for Christmas last Thursday as I motored around the county.
As I am apt to complain, getting in and out of a parking space around the square downtown can be harrowing, especially backing out.
My car is no competition for the truck and suv crowd. There were a few Men and Women of Goodwill who stopped as I was backing out in front of them.
Nope they didn’t want the parking space as I figured, they just were being nice. I also ran into a few Wise Men who were shopping for their children and wives gifts although their shopping list apparently included items for themselves as well, hunting socks size 10-13.
Food Pride and Ingles were full of shoppers gathering the ingredients for delicious holiday meals, one family was seen loading up a whole pig.
Now I wonder where they live, I think there is a BBQ in their future.
The children were not nestled warm in their beds yet. No, I heard their cries, “but I want it,” as their parents tried to stir them clear of the toy aisles in the Dollar General and Family Dollar.
Doing that was not an easy task as the kids did not seem to fall for the idea that Santa’s visit was just a day away.
Lots more Christmas lights this year twinkled on shops and houses. And then we got the added bonus of seeing snowflakes on Christmas Day. It was just like a Christmas card scene.
Just a thank you to our police and fire personnel who are always there no matter what the hour or day. And to our teachers and school staff, have a nice holiday.
Monticello and Jasper County citizens, may 2011 be our best year ever, Happy New Year!
