Spring Surprises

“Hello, who is this?” A croaking voice responds a garbled reply to me. “What, what?” As I start to hang up, I recognize the voice on the other end through the thick glaze of her pollen-coated vocal chords, it was my cousin.

Each year our beautiful forest of trees in Jasper County sends us the same message as we trudge through their Springtime pollen onslaught, “we’re back!”

Pray that we do not have any high winds to stir the stuff around even more. My red car looks like a clown car at the circus with its array of yellow dots of pollen. And remember never think that your windshield wiper fluid is strong enough to permeate the layer of pollen buildup, think again my friend, you will be trying to see through a streaked thick mess.

Yes, Spring is here, and yet mother nature always has one more surprise in store for us; don’t put those coats, scarfs and gloves away just yet.
