Take Me Out…

It’s time to sing that traditional song that we all know…Take me out to the ball game….

Yes, major league baseball season begins today, and I know of no one more excited than me! Yes, I am a real baseball, well, particularly an Atlanta Braves fan. I was there when Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s home run record in April 1974, and I was there many times before and have been there many times after.

Seems the Atlanta Braves of old were not an expensive night out. I remember many a night my mom and dad loading us girls up and heading to the ball field.

We sat in the “cheap seats,” what with a family of six. One thing about those “cheap seats,” everybody there had team spirit. There was always lots of hollering and clapping. Since that time I have sat in more cheap seats as well as in the good seats many a time, and we’ve even found a in-between area where we like to sit now.
I had the privilege of sitting in great seats for the first ever game at Turner field (an exhibition game), and again for the first “real” game there.

The Braves home opener is not until next weekend, and after considerable debate, we decided to skip opening night and go opening Sunday. We learned the hard way quite a few years ago that opening night can be mighty chilly…not really the best weather for baseball.

So we’ll take off Sunday where the odds of good weather are better, and root the Braves on to victory, hopefully, over those dang Phillies. And, we’ll have fun, win or lose.

Braves outings are not nearly as affordable as they once were, but if you can swing it, it’s a great place to spend a day. If you’re not a baseball fan, just people watching and experiencing Turner Field with all its sights and sounds is worth the trip one time.

Batter up!
