Dog Days of Summer
The sudden hard rain came after a blistering hot humid day, steam rose from the thirsty earth. Yep, it was the start of the lovely Dog Days of Summer.
Dog Days, why my dog, Boo, has a Dog Day everyday, not just in the summer. He gets the best seat in the house where the AC seems to blow the coolest.
My grocery cart each week is filled with food and snacks for him. He gets a treat for going outside, in fact, two. Boo has it made if you ask me, but to blame dogs for this hot weather is not fair.
Blame it on the Romans or the Greeks or whoever saw that a bunch of stars in the sky was shaped like a DOG.
The Dog Star is really named Sirius which this time of year rises and sets with the sun. Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky and said to be the nose of the dog.
Ancients said it was so bright that it gave off heat to the earth and made it much hotter, blame the hot weather on that dang Dog Star.
Just for the record, the official Dog Days of Summer are July 3 through August 11 and to escape the heat you might want to head south, way south. The HIGH tomorrow in Sydney, Australia is 61 degrees.
