Make Exercise a Priority!
Out of my five top priorities I will rarely ever neglect my health, my family or my work responsibilities. As much as I LOVE writing for The Monticello News, I wasn’t able to fit it into my schedule and take care of the most important things in my life. It made me wonder how others discern between priorities and other busyness.
Although my 15 year old daughter Savannah has many other responsibilities, when she offered to write the article for me, I took advantage. I am so glad I did. Her perspective was fresh and relevant. She was able to speak to the younger generation and offer them some helpful advice.
When life gets so busy that you can’t accomplish all on your to-do list, what get’s crossed off? When I get overwhelmed with too much to do I will postpone the trip to the grocery store. I may wait to return phone calls. I might say no when asked to volunteer my time.
The one thing, however, that will never get crossed off my list is my time to exercise. When the paper work continues to pile up, the kids are on a search for “something good to eat,” and I still haven’t sent the birthday cards, I go workout.
I’m not neglecting my responsibilities—I am taking care of what is really important. Even as I sit here finishing this article, I have two or more hours of office work to do, a grocery trip to make and the Georgia game to watch.
The list doesn’t get smaller, the responsibilities don’t go away—but in the big picture, I won’t have the mental clarity or energy I need if exercise doesn’t take precedence.
Next time you feel overwhelmed with a long to-do list, don’t cross off exercising unless you’ve already done it!
