Spring-Pollen-Saplings

Squinting to see the computer monitor screen through swollen eyes, the results of the yellow pollen haze that permeates and coats everything around here this time of year, it must be spring in Jasper County which officially started on March 20th at 1:14 a.m.

It doesn’t help to live in a county where there are more pine trees than armadillos trying to cross 212.

What is so amazing is the determination of those little yellow pollen spores. Each year I plant tomato plants by the dozen, maybe six will live and produce a tomato the size of a walnut, yum yum. But every cotton-pickin time one of those pine spores lands on the brick hard red clay, it roots.

My experience living in the shallow end of life has taught me to accept it, if you live in Jasper County you are going to have to be diligent in pulling up those pesky pine saplings or by next week it will cost you $2,000 to get the dang thangs cut down.
