I’m fixing to take a little time
I’m fixing to take a little time.
No, no, I’m not going away again, I just want to take a little time to talk about time. Actually you can’t really “take” time, but you can “use” time, so that’s what I’m fixing to do.
I’ve always been fascinated by time and really enjoy movies and books about time travel. If I could do it I think I would go backwards instead of forward. It would be kind of scary going forward. It could also be scary going back, but at least you would know what to expect.
Ever wish time would stand still? That usually happens when you’re on vacation on some tropical island with your sweetie eating coconuts and pineapples, splashing around in the surf all day and dancing and feasting the night away. But it always ends.
Time is like a river, it just keeps on rolling along, and pretty soon that time you wanted to stand still is just a memory.
Ever wish time would race along with the speed of a lightening bolt? I can think of lots of more situations when that was desirable instead of it standing still. But it never fails that when you’re somewhere you don’t want to be surrounded by people you don’t want to be with, time drags by like pouring molasses on a cold winter morning.
Remember that time you had a toothache? It only lasted about 20 minutes, but it seemed like an eternity. And, oh Lord, it seemed like it took two centuries to get out of high school, but now it seems like 10 years ago was just like yesterday.
If it seems like time is dragging on, you ought to go somewhere else from where you are and find some other people to be around.
The sense that time drags by or flies by is a direct result of whether we are experiencing pain or pleasure at that time. It doesn’t stand still, speed up or ever stop.
Remember that song, Ain’t it Funny how Time Slips Away? It doesn’t slip away either. It rolls on at a constant speed and no one or anything can stop it or even alter it, except of course, the Creator of time.
We are truly trapped by time and can’t do anything about it. We can’t stop it, save it, take it or give it away, and as yet find a way to travel in it, but we can measure it, right down to one hundredth of a second, maybe more.
But I have found a way! Not forward, but I can travel backwards in time. I’ll tell you how I do that.
Did you ever look back at a time or a place in your life, whether it was 20 minutes ago, last week or several years ago, and wish you could change what you said or did?
Hadn’t you ever looked back and said to yourself, “Dog gone it! I wish I had of thought to say what I just thought of instead of what I did.” Or, “Dang it, I wish I had of thought to do this instead of what I did.”
I think this has happened to all of us, but when you think of what you wished you had of said or done, it’s always too late. That time has passed and gone.
Well, I got a way to fix that. Sort of.
I have discovered that in writing I am not trapped by time, and if I write something that’s wrong or could have been written better, why I just go back and change it to what I should have done or said. All I need is an eraser or the backspace key.
So if I have said or done anything wrong, please let me know and I’ll travel back in time and rewrite it.
In the meantime, I’m fixing to see what time supper is fixing to be ready.
