HIbernate for Your Health
Although I love hot, humid weather, I look forward each year to the long nights of darkness to catch up on sleep. My friends and family like to poke fun at my love for resting, napping and early bedtimes. My obsession with sleep may seem like a guilty pleasure, but sleep is essential in achieving a healthier lifestyle.
Studies have proven that lack of sleep is linked to colds and flu, diabetes, heart disease, depression and even obesity. To combat against these ailments and enjoy the health benefits of sleep, one should get at least seven hours each night. During this time, your cells are restoring, your hormones are regulating and your immune system is rejuvenating.
Sleeping to attain beauty is not a myth. Just like a nutritious diet and regular exercise, sleep is a source of fuel and energy for the body. Establishing consistent sleep patterns can give you healthier and more beautiful skin. You may also consider sleeping on your back. Sleeping on your stomach or side causes you to press your face into the pillow creating fine lines and deep creases.
Start receiving the benefits of a good night’s sleep by making it habit. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. At least seven hours a night will help you look and feel better.
