Lady Track ’Canes Win Region

The Monticello Hurricane girls track team is the region champion for the 2013 season.

The teams competed last week in the preliminary rounds and came out on top for the finals held Friday.

Leading the girls team was Janee Chapman who earned first place finishes in the 400m relay, 1600m relay, 100m dash, 200m dash, and the long jump.

Miss Chapman earned the High Point Award for the region.

Tierra Whitlock also had a great showing earning first place in the 400m relay, 1600m relay, 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and second place in the high jump.

Alkelia Ross was the top finisher in the 400m relay, 1600m relay, and 400m dash. She earned second place in the 200m dash, and fourth in the triple jump.

Logan Moore earned first place in the 400m relay and 1600m relay and second in the 400m dash.

Meagan Roberts took third in the pole vault, fourth in the 400m relay, fifth in the 1600m relay, and sixth in the 800m run.

Kamia Thomas earned second place in the 300m hurdles, fourth in the 100m hurdles, and 400m relay, and fifth place in the 1600m relay.

Destiny Glawson took second place in the triple jump, fourth place in the 400m and the 1600m relays, and sixth in the long jump.

Arlaycha Stone took fourth place in the 400m relay, fifth in the 1600m relay, and sixth in the 100m dash.

Aaliyah Barnes was first in the discus event. Paisley Stewart was first place in she shot put event.

Allyric Usher took sixth in both the shot put and discus.Katie Alewine was awarded eighth in the 3200m run, and seventh in the 1600m run.

Mssers. Chapman, Ross, Moore, Whitlock, Roberts, Glawson, Stone, Thomas, Barnes, and Stewart will all compete at State Sectionals Saturday, April 27.

The boys team also competed with the results as follows:

Brandon Stewart, fourth place in the 1600m relay, and in both the 1600m and 800m runs.

Jordan Weaver placed fourth in the 3200m run. Qua Thurmond earned second in the high jump and fourth in the 1600m relay.

Terrence Brown placed fourth in the 1600m relay, and seventh in the 400m dash. Quincy Standifer placed fourth in the 1600m relay.
