Eudena McMichael Moore
Eudena McMichael Moore died April 21, 2013 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Ms. Moore was born on December 4, 1929 to the late Albert McMichael and Trudie Mozell Gordon McMichael.
She would show later in life to be a strong-willed, independent, resourceful, and inspiring woman.
She attended both Rock Zion and Mt. Olive schools for her education and Jasper County Training School for her fourth through seventh grade education. During this time she joined Freedonia A.M.E. church and was a faithful member.
She moved to Macon to reside with her aunt Clara and attended Hudson High School, graduating June 6, 1947. After graduation she relocated to Marietta finding work as a nurse’s aide for Dr. George Haygood. She worked there for about three years, during which time she met and married Arthur Harold Memfee. The two left Georgia and moved to Chicago, Ill., where she found work as a nurse’s aide at Resthaven Nursing Home.
A few years later, she returned to Monticello to take care of her ailing mother.
A year after her mother’s passing, she moved to Atlanta. The next year after a prolonged fight with glaucoma, she completely lost her sight.
Within a decade, she met and married Jack Orrie Moore and gave birth to her only child. In the early 80s, she began working as a machine operator at Georgia Institute for the Blind. She left in 1987 to help take care of her grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacquelynn Mozell Moore; three grandchildren, Robert, Michael, and Chelsea Rosser; one great-grandchild, Kameron Rosser and a host of other family and friends.
Pallbearers were Joseph McMichael, Danny Barron, Gary Appling, Stanley Gordon, Terry Gordon, and Richard Johnson.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Freedonia A.M.E. Church, 1111 Freedonia Road in Monticello. Rev. E. Fladger, officiated, Rev. Willie B. Card, eulogist. Burial was held at the McMichael Cemetery with repast at Freedonia A.M.E. Church Annex.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
