Middle School Cougars Complete Season

In the regular season finale, the Piedmont Academy Middle School baseball team engaged in another classic confrontation with the school’s long time rival.

In the end, Gatewood held on for an 8-7 win Saturday as Piedmont completed its spring slate.

Zach Mooney paced the Cougars by going 2-for-3 with three RBI while Owen Brady was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Michael Edwards finished 1-for-2 with a run and RBI while Mack Brady drove in a run.

Piedmont scored four runs in the bottom of the first and added two more in the second and one more in the sixth. Gatewood scored one run in the top of the first, three in the third, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Edwards worked 2.3 innings with seven strikeouts before Mack Brady pitched the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.

“It was a very intense and competitive game,” said coach Dan Funt. “I’m proud of the way the guys played. They battled the whole game.”
