Partenza, Hammonds Pace Piedmont Track at State
Logan Partenza and Emily Hammonds helped lead the Piedmont Academy track teams during the GISA Class AA state meet in Albany last week.
Partenza was fourth in the 400-meter dash and sixth in the 800-meter run. Hammonds was sixth in the 400-meter run for the Lady Cougars.
Both the Piedmont boys and girls compiled 10 team points and were 14th overall.
The girls 4×400-meter relay team of Hammonds, Abbey Hyde, Heather Tyler, and Amelia Dodson was fourth. The same quartet was seventh in the 4×100-meter relay.
The boys 4×100-meter relay team of Britton Bailey, Gaven Edge, Partenza and Barrett Whitaker finished seventh in Albany.
Other top finishers for Piedmont included:

•Parker Kelly, 14th, 1,600-meter run
•Tyler, 15th, long jump
•Peek, 15th, 800-meter run
•Bailyn Whitaker, 16th, 800-meter run
“We had a great season,” coach Rhett Farmer said. “We qualified more girls for state this year. The number for the boys was about the same. I am proud of the work our athletes put in this spring.”
