Mrs. Laura Jean ‘PeeWee’ Catchings

Mrs. Laura Jean “PeeWee” Catchings was born August 18, 1932 in Jasper County to the late Freeman Epps and Mamie McDowell Epps.

She was one of eight children. She was educated in Jasper County. She was a sweet, loving and hard working mother and friend. On January 1, 1988, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Johnnie E. Catchings.

Mrs. Catchings was retired from the Jasper County Board of Education and for a brief period she was employed by Hardee’s. She was a loyal, dedicated and faithful Jehovah’s Witness. On Thursday, May 9, 2013, her fight was over. God called “PeeWee” home from labor to reward.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, a sister, son-in-law and grandchild.

She leaves to cherish her memories ten children: Mamie Goolsby, Walter Carter, Gloria Williams, Janice Maddox, Mary Sue Carter, Harvey Catchings, Joann Jackson, J.D. Catchings, Barbara Douglas and James Catchings; sister, Christine Key; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a devoted Jehovah’s Witness family and friends.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
