Jay McMicahel Is Chosen as Recreation Director

Jasper County native Jay McMichael has been hired as the new recreation director for Jasper County, filling the vacancy left when Wes Chester was terminated last month.

Mr. McMichael has been active in youth ball, serving as a baseball, basketball and football coach for the Jasper County Recreation Department for more than 15 years. He also served on the baseball board for the rec department.

He is currently a consultant for the Jasper County Board of Education, overseeing all athletic fields, and works with the coaches in practices and camps.

Mr. McMichael was the head of gournds and fields for two state Dixie youth baseball tournaments held locally.

Mr. McMichael was one of nearly 20 applicants for the job, and began work Monday.

He said he is looking forward to everyone pulling together totmake the recreation programs and entire department, the best it can be.
