Keldrick Davis Signs with Thomas University

COACH STEPHEN COX, KELDRICK DAVIS

Keldrick Davis, a basketball player for South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) Waycross Campus, has signed a letter-of-intent to continue his basketball career at Thomas University in Thomasville.

Davis, a 6’0” redshirt sophomore from Monticello, played two seasons for the former Waycross College Swamp Foxes. He averaged 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game during the 2012-2013 season.

Mr. Davis finished in the top 10 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) in assists, averaging 4.5 per game. Known for his defensive prowess, Davis also finished in the top five in steals, averaging 2.3 per game.

Davis graduated from SGSC’s Waycross Campus this spring with an associate’s degree in Teacher Education – Middle Grades. He said he is grateful to continue his basketball career at the next level.

“First of all, I must give thanks to God for blessing me with the talent to play a sport I’ve loved from my childhood,” he said. “During my visit to Thomas University, it felt like the environment I’ve been accustomed to in Waycross. The coaches and players were welcoming and excited about me becoming a part of a legacy with the (Thomas University) Nighthawks.”

Men’s basketball at Thomas University will officially begin this fall following a lengthy hiatus. SGSC-Waycross head coach Cory Baldwin is excited that Davis will be able to make his mark on another young basketball program.

“Keldrick will get to do something very few people have done in college athletics, and that is to be on the ground floor of two programs (SGSC-Waycross and Thomas University),” he said.

Davis is one of 26 former Swamp Fox players to sign with a four-year college or university since the program began in 2009.

On January 8, 2013, South Georgia College and Waycross College consolidated to form South Georgia State College; however, per NJCAA guidelines, the athletic teams will not consolidate and become the South Georgia State College Hawks until June 30, 2013.
