Helen Travis-Clay
Helen Travis-Clay, 74, died Friday, May 17 following a prolonged illness. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at Payne Chapel A.M.E. Church, Colorado Springs, Co. with interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Co.
Mrs. Clay was born July 2, 1938 in Atlanta, Ga. to the late Marcellus and Blanche Arnold-Travis. She was married to Franklin D. Clay, a native of Monticello and current retired Army veteran. The couple had been married for 57 years.
Although the couple had been residents of Colorado for five decades, they made frequent trips to Georgia to visit family and friends in the years preceding her illness.
Visitation is planned for Friday, May 24 from 5-7 p.m. at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors, 1104 South Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, Co. 80910.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marcellus Travis, Jr. and a sister, Betty Travis Dunson.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three children, Veronica Clay-Gray, Rodney Bernard Clay, and Michelle Clay-Largent, all of Colorado; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one goddaughter.
