Seventeen Complete First Responder Course
Some 17 Jasper County volunteer firefighters recently completed a Emergency Medical responder course.
The 52-hour course was taught by Paramedic EMS Inst. 1, Christopher Finch, lead instructor; EMT-1 EMS Inst. 1 Jan Fowler, assistant instructor, and Fire Chief Jarret Slocumb, EMT-1 Keith Haddock, Paramedic Dori Strock and EMT-1 Charles Cooper, all as assistant staff.
Jasper County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) last summer applied for the grant through Ga. EMS. The county was awarded the grant which paid for books, class supplies, and instructor fees. In addition, all students who successfully completed the class will receive an EMR stocked medical jump bag, that will allow them to practice what they learned in the class in order to provide patient care to the citizens of Jasper County.
All of the students are Jasper County Volunteer Firefighters who attended this class without any compensation. All the students selflessly committed their time and energy to take the class, and be able to make a difference in people’s lives in their time of need. The class lasted two months.
Graduates of the class are able to respond to soft tissue injuries, splinting needs, cardiac arrest, OB calls, difficulty breathing, chest pains, and trauma injuries.
“These students have gone the extra mile in order to serve and protect their neighbors,” the trainers said.
The newly certified personnel include Luke Bales, Maritsa Bell, Tyler Fritz, James Futral, Brian Hill, Nicholas Johnston, Tracey Johnston, Robb Leggett, Christy Linthicum, Marlin Linthicum, Crystal Milligan, Steve Milligan, Emily Johnston, Joshua Ribonson, Lionel, Mary Tumlin and Anna Westbrook.
