Julia Mae Burney

Julia Mae Burney of Monticello died Wednesday, May 29, 2013.

Ms. Burney was born April 24, 1935 to the late Irene and Gus Stone, Sr.

She attended Jasper County Training School. For over 40 years she did house cleaning for a number of families.

Those which preceded her in death were siblings, Charles, Claude, Waymond, Gus Jr., Walter and Mattie Lou.

Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Ridley and Hattie Redding, both of Monticello; sister-in-law, Mozzell Stone of Hartford, Conn.; two aunts, D.C. Burney of Decatur, and Mildred Stone of Atlanta; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services were held on June 1, at St. James A.M.E. Church, 514 Funderburg Drive, Monticello. Pastor Donna Marie Calix officiated.

Interment was in South View Cemetery, Monticello.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
