Another Gun Theft Is Reported

On Monday, June 3, a resident on Blue Heron Drive reported the theft of two guns to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).

Reported stolen were a Savage 30-06 bolt action rifle with a synthetic stock and a Simmons scope, and a Mosseberg pump action 12 gauge shotgun with with a wooden stock and a sling.

 

Gun thefts have been prevalent in the county this year, as reported by The News on several occasions, and citizens are reminded to keep guns and other valuables locked up.

Other criminal incidents reported by the JCSO during the past week include the following. Anyone with information concerning these or any other criminal activity are encouraged to contact the JCSO at 706-468-4912, or by calling the anonymous tips line at 706-468-JCSO:

On June 1 a resident on Wild Road in Mansfield reported the theft of  five and ten-gallon gas cans.

On May 29 the owner of property on Magpie Court reported the theft of copper wire.

On May 28 a resident on Blue Heron Drive reported the theft of a wallet containing a driver’s license and a social security card. 

Also, during the period of May 28 through June 4 the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•Bradly Dale Parker, 32, Hillsoboro—probation violation.

•Bridget Leigh Clark, 28, Covington—entering auto and giving false name or address to law enforcement officer.

•Keifer Wayne Wood, 19, Monticello—entering auto, burglary and probation violation.

•Jamie Leigh Johnson, 26, Good Hope—disorderly conduct.

•William Matthew Smith, 22, Jonesboro—probation violation and parole violation.

•Patricia Renea Hinds, 20, Monticello—probation violation.

•Mandy Ruth Johnson, 33, Monticello—deposit account fraud.

•Chad John Martin Slater, 17, Monticello—furnishing/purchase/possession of alcohol by persons under 21 years of age and criminal trespass.

•Derrick Roosevelt Fortner, 24, Mansfield—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 213 calls for service including 90 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 19 subject needs officer, 13 alarm, eight checking location, six juvenile complaint, five each burglary, theft by taking, vandalism of property and road hazard, four each domestic, assist motorist, accident, mechanical break down, pickup prisoner/subject, welfare check and argument.

Also, three each trouble unknown and attempt to serve warrant, two each courtesy ride, trespassing, persons refuse to leave and vgcsa, one each dog disturbance, speeding auto, escort or convoy, special detail, be on the look out, chest pain, unconscious, utility department needed, extra patrol, four wheeler, dead on arrival, shooting, private property, request DNR and identity fraud/theft.

Also, during the period mentioned above the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:

•Shirley Wise Benton, 53, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

•Mario Bernard Thurman, 41, Monticello—no insurance, license violation and driving while registration suspended.

•Mario Bernard Thurman, Jr., 20, Monticello—hold for warrant in Putnam County.

•Cedric Deshon Thurman, 32, Monticello—hold for warrants in Gwinnett and Jackson Counties.

In addition, during this time period officers with the MPD responded to 74 calls for service including 28 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, seven trouble unknown, four each escort or convoy and juvenile complaint, three subject needs officer, two each mechanical break down, welfare check, vandalism of property, argument and attempt to serve warrant, one each fight, burglary, domestic, courtesy ride, fire, chest pain, unconscious, utility department needed, fall, assist invalid, private property, threatening/harassing calls, road hazard and fraud/theft by deceiving.

Furthermore, during this same period the Department of Natural Resources reported the following arrests:

•Mark Nathaniel Gordy, 34, Jackson—operating a vessel at night with improper lights and operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Devin Hurley Zarus, 19, Pine Lake—possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

•Addison D’Artagnan Sans, 18, Atlanta—operating a vessel without lights during hours of darkness and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
