Diamond Cougars Honored

Piedmont Academy’s varsity baseball program was recognized during a ceremony Monday as the players and coaches looked back on another state playoff season.

Zach Beggs was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and was also the program’s Scholar Athlete. Beggs was also recently named All-State for GISA Class AA.

Mac Brittain earned the Coaches Award while Hunter Knox was recognized for his defensive efforts during the 2013 season.

Logan Partenza, the team’s lone senior, was named the Offensive MVP.

Beggs, Partenza, Brittain, Knox, Josh Williams and Malcom Tyler were each named All-Region.

Partenza was also selected to participate in the annual GISA All-Star contest, which will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mercer University. Players from Class A and Class AA teams will meet an All-Star team comprised of players from Class AAA schools in two games beginning at 2 p.m
