Hattie Kate Driskell
Hattie Kate Driskell, 67, of Monticello died June 1, 2013.
Mrs. Driskell was born December 31, 1945 to the late Marie Hardwick and Mitchell “Hanky” Standifer.
Mrs. Driakell attended Jasper County Training School. At an early age, she met the love of her life, Willie Joe Driskell and married him on August 28, 1965. The couple had two children, Eleanor Battle of Monticello and Janet Smith of Fayetteville, N.C.
She was a nurse at Putnam General for many years until her health failed, but she still continued in the nursing field by doing private sitting and volunteer work at the Monticello Retreat.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, big mamma, and Momma Kate to many—sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousins, and everyone’s friend.
In addition to her parents, a brother, Larry Hardwick and two granddaughters, Shaquita Alexander and Ternessha Alexander preceded her in death.
Survivors, in addition to her daughters, include her husband, Willie Joe Driskell; three grandchildren, Trimaine Battle, Desmon Battle and Jameria Blain; a devoted sister, Juanita Williams; stepbrothers, Roy and Ray Goolsby; a stepsister, Dorothy Walker and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 8 at Springfield Baptist Church in Monticello. Pastor Gale Middlebrook officiated. Interment was in New Community Cemetery, Adgateville.
Flower attendants were the class of 1965 and friends and family. The Rooks brothers were pallbearers.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
