Library To Again Be Open Seven Days

The Jasper County Library Board is pleased to announce expanded hours for the Jasper County Library beginning July 1, 2013.
The additional service hours are due to the actions of the Jasper County Board of Commissioners, Monticello City Council, and Jasper County Board of Education. Each agency has committed funds to the library in order to increase public library service in the community.
Beginning July 1, the Jasper County Library will be open seven days a week. The new hours will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Thursdays 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., and Sundays 2 – 6 p.m.
“We are very excited about this change,” said Glenn Newsome, Chair of the Jasper County Library Board. “We are pleased that the three funding agencies all recognized the need for expanded library hours and were able to make this a reality for the citizens of Jasper County.”

The Jasper County Library houses an impressive collection of print books, audiobooks, videos, and also offers e-books and free downloadable music to patrons. Not only are public libraries the number one point of online access for people without internet connections in Georgia, they also provide books, music and DVDs that patrons would not otherwise be able to access and enjoy.
Reference and research assistance continues to be a vital part of the Jasper County Library’s mission. Indeed, the Persons Collection at the library is a jewel in the community. The collection is one of the finest examples of art, architecture and interior design materials in Georgia.
Once again, the Jasper County Library is hosting a summer reading program, funded in large part by the Friends of the Jasper County Library. The theme this year is “Dig Into Reading.” Program events include storytellers, science magic, and music shows and will be held on Tuesdays throughout June and July. Check with the library for exact show times and performers.
The summer reading program will end with a special Saturday event featuring storyteller Josie Bailey on August 3. Everyone is invited to “Dig Into Reading” this summer!
In addition to local programs, residents of Jasper County can also pick up free passes to attractions around the state, including the Go Fish Education Center, the Atlanta Zoo, the museum at The Center of the Puppetry Arts, and all Georgia State Parks.
Jasper County Library Board members in addition to Mr. Newsome, include Mary Camp, Kristy Burton, and Melba Bridges representing the county, Cornell Williams, representing the city, and John DeGarmo, representing the school board.
“Needless to say we are very excited about the new expanded hours—seven days a week—and are thankful to the County Commission, City Council, and School Board for their increased financial commitment to our library. We are certain this will benefit everyone in Jasper County,” said the Library Board members.
Library board members encourage those in the community who are pleased with the change to thank their city, county and school elected leaders. And, everyone is encouraged to use the facility.
The extended hours make it easier for students and others to have access to a high speed internet connection.
