Dr. J. Estes Joins Med Practice with Dr. Barton

Just a few short years ago, like 12 or so, Jameson Estes and Shannon Barton were classmates working toward their medical degrees.
They both received their residency training at the Southwest Georgia Family Practice Residency Program, working together at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
After that, Dr. Shannon Barton came to work and live in Jasper County, joining the staff at Primary Care Center (PCC) at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Some years later, she and Dr. Kenny Blake, another med-school friend who worked with her at PCC, opened their own practice, Venture Medical Center on Venture Court in Monticello.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jameson Estes went into clinical practice at Randolph Medical Associates in Cuthbert. While there, he also did emergency room work at Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center.
After that, Dr. Estes went to work in Henry County at McIntosh Trail Family Practice Then, he wanted a change. So, Dr. Estes began doing emergency room rotations at Coliseum Northside Hospital in Macon, Sylvan Grove Hospital in Jackson and West Georgia Health in LaGrange.
The emergency room enabled Dr. Estes to complete requirements for board certification in disaster medicine to go along with his board certification for family medicine.
When Dr. Blake determined he needed to relocate, Dr. Barton contact Dr. Estes about coming to Monticello, and he agreed. He readily admits that through the years he had contacted his former classmate several times to get her to join him where he was working.
They obviously think highly of one another, and Dr. Barton feels he’ll be a good fit in Monticello and Jasper County.
Dr. Estes and his wife, Andrea, live in Henry County. They have four children, Andrew, 14; Sarah, 12; Samuel, 8, and Hannah, 4.
He is the son of James and Peggy Estes who live in Rockdale County, after moving there from southeast Atlanta many years ago. as he served as a coach at both Walker High School and Southwest DeKalb High School some 40+ years ago.
Dr. Estes said he is looking forward to the new experience of being an owner/operator, and the challenges of being a business owner.
He especially looks forward to meeting the people of Jasper County. He began work here July 1, seeing 14 patients his first day, and was up to 21 patients by this third day.
A reception was held Tuesday to tell Dr. Blake good-bye, and to welcome Dr. Estes. He says he welcomes new patients. Call Venture Medical Center at 706-468-7002.
