Man Is Charged with Child Molestation
James Edward Cole, III, 45, of Monticello, was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Sunday, July 7, and charged with aggravated child molestation.
According to information contained in the arrest warrant there were two separate incidents, one occurring on December 20, 2007, and the other on December 19, 2010, involving a child under the age of 16 at a private residence in the county.
Mr. Cole is currently incarcerated in the county jail and has been denied bond.

•On July 7, a resident on Holman Road reported the theft of two gas cans, an Echo weed trimmer and a push lawn mower.
•On July 3, a resident on Concord Road in Shady Dale, reported a theft by taking with no description of items taken.
•On July 2, a resident on Deer Run Circle in Newborn, reported the theft of a 19 foot Hooper Trailer.
In addition, during the period of July 2-9 the JCSO reported the following arrests:
•Kim Annett Slaughter, 46, Mansfield—disorderly conduct.
•Maria Ladell Hutcheson, 26, Newborn—criminal trespass.
•Billy Joe Wages, 37, Hillsboro—civil contempt order.
• Melissa Leigh Loggins, 32, Monticello: possession of marijuana less than 1 oz. and hold for warrant in Newton County.
•Dustin Lee Raynor, 35, Lodowici—possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
•Tomas George Pruett, 27, Monticello—battery.
•Ryan David Middlebrooks, 32, Monticello—theft by taking and theft by receiving stolen property.
•Noah Christopher Jackson, 21, Monticello—probation violation.
•Lori Christine Straka, 50, Monticello—habitual violator and failure to maintain lane.
•Lester Kyle Bankston, 25, Conyers—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operation of vehicle without current plate and no insurance.
•Timothy Lynwood, Jr., 24, Monticello—burglary.
During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 168 calls for service including 62 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 15 each alarm and subject needs officer, nine accident, seven theft by taking, five each mechanical break down and road hazard, four each assist motorist and checking location, three each domestic, livestock on road and threatening/harassing calls.
Also, two each courtesy ride, intoxicated driver, pick up prisoner/subject, trouble unknown, music/noise complaint, vandalism of property, trespassing, persons refuse to leave and attempt to serve warrant, one each dog disturbance, prowler report, burglary, escort or convoy, wanted/stolen indicated, be on the look out, miscellaneous ems, welfare check, four wheeler, juvenile complaint, possible suicide, private property, argument and 911 hang up.
Also during this period, the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:
•Roderick Antonio Barkley, 27, Griffin—possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
•Kenneth Anthony Thurman, 50, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
During this same period officers with the MPD responded to 72 calls for service including 27 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, six escort or convoy, five subject needs officer, four alarm, three each trouble unknown and 911 hang up, two each burglary, accident, mechanical break down, argument and persons refuse to leave, one each assist motorist, shortness of breath, fall, crowd disbursement, welfare check, counterfeit, fireworks, threatening/harassing calls and vandalism of property.
Furthermore, during this period the Georgia State Patrol reported the arrest of Emiliano Torrez, 25, of Monticello, and charged him with following too close.
