Martha Elizabeth Donald Cruce

Martha Elizabeth Donald Cruce, 88, of Monticello, formerly of Swainsboro, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at her residence.

Mrs. Cruce was born in Hamilton, Ga. to the late Harry Hinton Donald and Martha Elizabeth Folds Donald. She was married for 55 years to the late Jesse Davis Cruce.

Mrs. Cruce worked many years with the Sunbeams, GA’s, and preschool Sunday School in Swainsboro Baptist Church. She was a member of the Swainsboro Garden Club and the Women’s Missionary Union. She was secretary for many years of her Sunday School classes in both Swainsboro and Loganville Baptist Churches. She volunteered many years at the Emanuel County Hospital.

She moved to Monticello in 2004, and joined the Monticello Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a special mother who gave precious hours to caring for and loving her children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her two daughters and son-in-law, Jan Huff of Jefferson, and Susan and Johnny Smith of Monticello; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and April Cruce of Trussville, Ala.; grandchildren, Dana and Adam Phillips, Jami and Andrew Harris, Jason and Carly Huff, Jesse Cruce, Katie Cruce, Kelsy Solmon, Jared Solmon, Christopher Easterling, Chris and Beverly Smith, and Richey Smith; and great-grandchildren, Ella Phillips, Koen Phillips, Raya Phillips, Adam Smith, Rachael Smith, Austin Smith, and Kristen Smith.

A private family graveside service was held Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Mellwood Cemetery in Stone Mountain.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monticello Baptist Church, 334 W. Greene Street, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
