Johnnie Mae Johnson Jackson

Johnnie Mae Johnson Jackson was born in Jasper County on November 18, 1923.

Mrs. Jackson died August 9, 2013, after an extended illness.

She was the only child born to the late John and Lizzie Thurman Johnson. She was educated at M.M. Burdell and Ballard Hudson High School in Macon.

Her life was committed to Christ at an early age and was united with White’s Chapel C.M.E. Church in Hillsboro. There she was a faithful and dedicated member.

Realizing a need for spiritual guidance in her life, she united with the Church of Christ in Monticello. She retired from the Department of Family and Children Services after 17 years.

She was married to the late Johnny William Jackson.

Two sons, Robert Wayne Jackson, Charles Edward Jackson; a daughter, Betty Ruth Jackson; and one sister, Eunice Ayler; all preceded her in death.

Survivors include six children, William James “Jimmy” Jackson, Derwin R. Jackson, Richard Neal Jackson, all of Monticello, Kelvin C. Jackson of Covington, two daughters, Sue Ann Kemp and Barbara Rosetta Roberson, both of Monticello; a grandson, Draylan Jackson, she raised as a son; 56 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ann Crutchfield of Hillsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held today, Aug. 15, at 1 p.m. at the Jackson Home, 72 Pine Valley Road, Monticello. Smith and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
