RAIN, RAIN

This puddle at the corner of Burney Drive and Tucker Circle is typical of what Jasperites have seen lately, as the summer of 2013 may be remembered as the rainiest in memory.

However, a look at the records show that in 2005, Atlanta recorded 14.63 inches of rain in July, whereas Monticello recorded just under seven inches in July, 2013. Atlanta’s rain for July, 2013 was recorded as 8.48 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City. Monticello’s official rainfall amount is recorded at the Monticello Water Plant on Post Road.

Some 5.30 inches of rain has fallen so far in August, according to those records. The highest temperature so far in August was on August 11 when it reached a whopping 94 degrees. 2013 is definitely in line to be one of the rainiest in recent history, as 45.80 inches has already be recorded this year, and the 30-year average is 49.71 inches for the entire year.
