Four Qualify for Monticello City Election

David Wease, as he announced last week, qualified early this week as a candidate for the Monticello City Council in the District 2, Post 1 position.

Likewise, incumbent Larry Thurman qualified for the District 1, Post 1 position.

Incumbent Randy Strozier who currently occupies the District 2, Post 1 council seat also qualified for re-election, making the District 2, Post 1 seat the only contested election expected.

Mayor Bryan Standifer also qualified for re-election.

Qualifying ended at noon Thursday, Aug. 29, at City Hall.

The Mayor Pro-tem post and Post 2 in both districts were elected to four year terms, while the others were elected to two year terms so stagger the election cycles and avoid ever having all brand new council members.

Bobby Jacobs is mayor pro-tem; Cornell Williams is the councilman in the District 1 Post 2 seat, and Katherine Alexander holds the District 2, Post 2 seat.
