Lady ‘Canes Improve to 7-2

The Lady ‘Canes improved their record to 7-2 after shutting out Lamar County 9-0 last week. It was their fifth win in a row and their second region win, placing them atop Region 4-AA with a record of 2-0.

Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “Taylor Garrett threw a complete game and shut them out, only allowing two hits. She did a great job of working ahead in the count and making them put the ball in play. We committed an error on the first play of the game, but played outstanding defense after that.

“Offensively we had another solid game up and down the lineup, with eight of the nine starters having at least one hit. Garrett, Heather Anderson and Janee Chapman all went two-for-three, while Tierra Whitlock, Destiny Glawson and Kaitlan Needham all added to the RBI list.

“Lamar is a good team, with one of the best pitchers we’ve faced this year, so it was good to see us bounce back after the way we played defensively against Taylor. This was the fourth game in a row that we’ve had double-digit hits, so I’m extremely pleased with the approach we are taking at the plate. We are getting production up and down the lineup, and are doing a great job using the whole field, but we need this trend to continue because of the tough stretch of games we are about to encounter.”

The team was scheduled to play Union Grove yesterday, Sept. 4, too late to report the results in this edition.

Their upcoming schedule is as follows with all games scheduled at 5 p.m:

•Friday, Sept. 5, versus Crawford at home.

•Monday, Sept. 9, at North Oconee.

•Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Macon County.

•Wednesday, Sept. 11, versus Salem at home.

•Thursday, Sept. 12, versus Bleckley at home.
