Eagle Scout Candidate Works on Project
Local Eagle Scout candidate Sawyer Behling plans to work with the Jasper County Historical Foundation (JCHF) at Thomas Persons Hall as his Eagle Scout project.
Young Mr. Behling is a freshman at Jasper County High School and has been involved with the Boy Scout program since age 10. Eagle Scout rank is the highest rank in Boy Scouts and is awarded by an Eagle Scout board of review after satisfactory completion of the Eagle Project.
Eagle Projects are service projects that a Scout plans, leads, organizes, and manages. Eagle Projects can be started after a Scout has completed a minimum of 21 eagle required merit badges and has shown Scout Spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, leadership, and service.
An Eagle Project must benefit a community, school, or religious institution. To learn more about Boy Scouts of America, visit www.scouting.org.
Mr. Behling wants his Eagle project to be a part of the community as well as something that will last for years. This is why he chose to work with the Jasper County Historical Foundation on the historic property at 319 College Street. The director and board of JCHF are honored to receive a project at Thomas Persons Hall and proud to work with this enthusiastic and hard working young man.
He plans to create a patio with metal benches for a permanent seating area on the side of the building. The future Eagle Scout will learn from all aspects of the project, from the planning phase to raising money, purchasing the materials and installation.
Mr. Behling is blogging about his Eagle Project on www.sawyerbehlingeagleproject.blogspot.com. Mr. Behling is planning fund raisers to generate money for his project including home made ice cream sales and a car wash.
Anyone who would like to make a tax deductible donation towards this Eagle Project may do so at the Bank of Monticello in care of Bobbie Jean Ozburn; checks should be made out to JCHF with Eagle Project in the memo line. Donations will also be accepted at Thomas Persons Hall. Please look for upcoming fund raisers in the community.
Everyone who would like to learn more about this project and the history of the building at 319 College Street is invited to join the Jasper County Historical Foundation for its regular meeting next Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
A brief slide show program will provide information about the various school grades and activities that have taken place in the building since it was built in 1921. Desserts and coffee will be served. Visit ThomasPersonsHall.com for more information.
