Tink Dover Gets 13 of 15

Tink Dover of Rex was the winner of the second football contest of 2013, beating out nearly 150 others by correctly guessing the winner in 13 of the 15 games listed.
Six other players correctly guessed the winners of 12 games listed, having their names added to the grand prize honor roll.
Mr. Dover said he has been playing the game for 10 years, since his hunting buddies, Ervin Fulton and Lawson Fulton, of Mansfield, introduced it to him. This is the first time he has won. His friends call him each week with the contests, and he picks his winners, and submits his entry.
He drove down from his home in Rex earlier this week to collect his prize from Patrick Diaz with M.D. HVAC, last week’s prize sponsor.
Mr. Dover also has his name added the grand prize honor roll for a prize package to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta on New Year’s Eve. The Chick-Fil-A Bowl has been chosen as one of an elite group of six bowl games to host the new College Football Playoff.
It joins the Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Rose, and Sugar Bowls as the hosts for the new playoff structure that will begin following the 2014 college football season.
There was no clear pattern to those who scored the best last week. Judy Nelson, for example, made the honor roll, but one of her misses was her employer and favorite team, the Piedmont Cougars.
Than Crocker, an alumnus of Jasper County High School, picked against his alma mater which won, 56-0 over Social Circle. Hunter Duke got 12 right but missed the Jackson, Eastside contest.
Otherwise those making the honor roll got the high school ones right.
So football fanatic or casual fan, there is no cost to enter The Monticello News football contest, and anyone can win. This week, it could net you a prize worth $25 from Monticello Auto Parts.
Just make your picks, and get your entry to The News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 13. A couple of people have been pushing the limit with the deadline…if it’s not here by 5 p.m. sharp, we might not be either, and you will not be entered if it’s not here. Complete rules are listed with the contest on page 11 of the print edition.
