Lady ‘Canes Are Undefeated in Region
The Lady ‘Canes softball team beat Putnam last Tuesday, 10-7, and with the win finished the region schedule undefeated.
They will go into the Region Tournament as the #1 seed, and will play all of their games at home.
Last Wednesday, the ladies played Jackson at Georgia College and State University, and lost 4-3.
“We played well defensively, but didn’t hit the ball well enough early in the game to earn the win,” said Coach Chris Jenkins. “It was a great experience for the girls to be able to see the campus, and play on that field in front of their coaches. The loss was tough to take but we played well and had a great time.”
On Thursday, the ’Canes beat Mary Persons 6-5, at Georgia Perimeter College. Taylor Garrett picked up the win, and was pretty dominant until Mary Persons tacked on a few runs in the top of the seventh to tie it at 5. Cassidy Brown singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh, was moved up on a couple of quality at-bats by Madison Reese and Beth Hart, and singled in by Kaitlan Needham to win the game.
The Lady ‘Canes lost to Morgan on Monday.
Today, Sept. 26, the ladies are slated ot take on Eastside, and they’ll close out the month Monday vs. Strong Rock. Both of those contests are at home.
Next Tuesday, Oct. 1, they travel to Forsyth to take on Mary Persons again, then on Thursday, Oct. 3, the second round of the Region Tournament double header will be played at home vs. the winner of the Putnam and Taylor County series.
Senior night festivities will be held between the two games.
