Ethel Jones Win Contest on Tie-breaker

D.J. GRIMES PRESENTS PRIZE TO ETHEL JONES

Ethel Jones is a faithful fan of The Monticello News football contest. So faithful, when she moved to Florida some years back, her mother would call her on Friday morning before daylight to give her the contest games, and she would fax her guesses in from Florida.

Now she’s back in Georgia, not in Jasper County, but next door in Newton County, and she remains faithful. And this week, she as very lucky, because she was one of 10 who correctly guessed the winner in as many as 13 games listed.

However, Ms. Jones guessed 26 points would be scored in the Piedmont Cougars, 15-6 loss to Edmund Burke, less points than anyone else guessed. And for her efforts, she collected a $25 prize from Larry’s 4-Way, sponsor of the week. D.J. Grimes presented the check to Ms. Jones who was elated to collect the prize from the general store at the intersection of Hwy. 212 west and Jackson Lake Road.

Along with 10 people who correctly guessed the winners of 13 of the games last week, there were another 14 who correctly guessed the winners of 12 of the games listed, thereby having their names added to the grand prize honor roll.

At the end of the contest, one lucky contestant will win a grand prize of a four-ticket package to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta.

Those who correctly guessed the winners of 13 games listed, but missed on the tie-breaker, include Zack Lively, Matt Tumlin, Marene Brazil, Ed Hall, Walker Jordan, Zach Norris, Ken Kinard, Jackson Greenway, and Lane Thomas.

This is a new week, however, and the ‘Canes are back in action. So, whoever gets the most games right, subject to the tie-breaker will win a prize worth $25 from Kelly Fox with Northwestern Mutual Insurance, sponsor of the week. So, turn to page 9, read the rules, and submit your entry. You can’t win if you don’t play.

Remember to submit your entry to The News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 27. Be sure your name is on it. And, please, write legibly.
