Bloom Where You Are Planted
It hurts my heart when people, desperate to make a change, wait for the New Year as the catalyst moment to start their journey to a better life.
A resolution can be best defined as a determination and firmness of mind to find an answer to a problem. When put simply, a resolution will hopefully be the result of the decisions we make every day.
So why then must we make it such a big deal? Why such emphasis put on what life will bring us starting only on January 1 each year? And, whose idea was it anyway? Don’t sabotage your own efforts by making each new year the magic moment when you become determined to find a solution to your problem.
When I taught group exercise, memberships doubled and sometimes tripled after the new year; but not in January and not in February. It took almost three months before the planted seed even began to sprout. I watched it grow for about a month only to die shortly for lack of guts and grit.
I would love to be able to give solid advice on how to succeed at resolving to change but I can’t, or my exercise memberships would have steadily and permanently increased. If you haven’t ever been determined to make a change or had to solve a problem, then you probably won’t.
Consequently, if solving problems doesn’t intimidate you, then you are ready! You don’t even have to postpone your plans until March. Plant the seed, be patient, resolve to change, take care of your crop and watch your desires blossom.
Happy New Year
