Easter Egg Hunts

Maybe you attended one or more of the numerous Easter Egg Hunts held around the county this past weekend. Innocent as they may look.

There are not called Hunts for nothing.

Babies who can barely walk, sometimes even carried by their mothers, toddlers with baskets as big as they are, kids two years old (a whole separate group), all ages of children, then skip to the children who want to be teenagers, but don’t want to give up the good times had at the Hunt. That is the mix of ages.

Above all holidays, Easter Egg Hunts bring out fierce competition. Where are all the high school and college recruiters looking for their future students and athletes?

It’s a given, everyone is not going home with an even number of eggs or prizes. There will be tears and cries of, “It’s not fair!” or “He took my eggs.” A lesson in life learned early can be hard, but necessary.

And as one of the past winners of the Boston Marathon said, “It can’t be bought.”
