Half-Full, Happy & Healthy

Does the quest for happiness become the catalyst for getting slim? Happiness by definition is joy, ecstasy, bliss, delight, pleasure and gladness. Who doesn’t want that? But the better question may be; how does that effect getting the body you want?

According to my new found favorite website and smartphone app—allwomenstalk.com—(it’s not what you think), and in combination with my own beliefs—happiness has EVERYTHING to do with getting slim.

I will never claim to be able to teach one how to attain joy—I only want to plant encouraging seeds of hope to get readers to think about their emotional state as it relates to their physical wellness. Get happy and get fit. Slim-up by smiling, making joy your focus and counting your blessings.

Firstly, connect your workout to happiness. In a nutshell — choose something to do that you look forward to and will be an essential part of bringing you joy that day. That could mean having friends to fellowship with or having that quiet meditative time alone that gives you pleasure.

Without sounding cliche— count your blessings. If you can’t find a single thing you love about your body, you need to. Maybe it’s a round bottom, shapely shoulders, meaty thighs or a small waist.

Still doubting you have desirable qualities? I am betting that your spouse or a good friend knows all your best attributes. If you decide to ask them—make sure you listen.

Find a way to make your focus happiness, not weight loss. Here is when things get tricky. It’s like having your favorite flavor of ice cream in the freezer. If all you do is focus on resisting the temptation to eat it— or more demoralizing—using its presence to test your will power—what normally would have brought you joy in the form of a tasty treat has now become your enemy. Make note to self— ice cream will not bring you the pleasure you want unless you are already happy.

Studies show that a simple smile can actually help you eat better. People in a good mood are less likely to make unhealthful food choices than those who are down in the dumps. It can also instantly change your perspective especially when it causes someone else to grin. So smile and be proud of who you are, you only have one life, so live it right!

Take a deep breath and relax by meditating. Mediation is great for your body and mind and will help you de-stress as well. Happy people take the time to reflect on their lives and enjoy each day.

For some this takes considerable effort—so start small or you may become skeptical and frustrated. Repeat a three word mantra or prayer that can bring you back to a place of positive, affirming thoughts.

If you aren’t convinced that happiness can make you slimmer, you may have a glass half empty attitude. Instead find the positive in each and every day. You will be more successful in relationships, your career and your weight loss.

You only have one life, so live the healthy and happy life that you deserve!
