Odd Expressions

You’ve probably heard these expressions all of your life and just assume that everyone knows what they mean, but do we even know what we’re saying?

For instance, what the hey does, “A whistling woman and a crowing hen never comes to a very good end” mean? According to sources, that expression is translated, “Be who you are.” It does?

Animals seem to be a part of many of our local sayings, but one in particular seems very cruel, “Happy as a dead pig in the sunshine,” which is supposed to mean that the person doesn’t worry about what is going on unless unfortunately you are the pig. Yet another poor pig inspired saying is, “Even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then.”

Hey, don’t fly off the handle or let your mouth overload your tail. You do go on. With honey in your mouth, you give down the country, go hog wild, or go whole hog. I do declare, just listen to yourself. Indeed.
