Band To Perform Friday
The Jasper County High School Marching ‘Canes will perform their show “Energy” again for a home crowd on Friday.
The show features Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Maroon Five’s Harder to Breathe, Debussy’s Clair de Lune, Brahms’ Hungarian Dances No. 5 and Taio Cruz’s Dynamite.
The marching band show is intended to convey energy in three movements: kinetic, wave and electricity. A particularly notable feature of this year’s show are light accents on percussion instruments.
The band will compete at the Oconee Class at Baldwin County High School in Milledgeville on Saturday, Sept. 27, and at the Greater Atlanta Area Marching Festival at Rockdale County High School on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The band is led by drum major Taylor Edwards, a senior whose primary instrument is trombone. Taylor has also played with the Monticello Community Band for several years, and she is an active member of FCCLA and BETA Club.
The marching band is supported by the Jasper County Band Boosters, a non-profit organization led by President Laurie Robinson, Vice President Nena Poteet, Secretary Michelle Norwood and Treasurers Sam and Kathy McCowan.
The band is under the direction of JCHS Director of Bands Chris Savage, middle school band director Ray Buck, guard coordinator and music teacher at Washington Park and Jasper County Primary School Kim Savage, guard instructor Hailey Brown, brass/visual staff Wayne Bennett, percussion staff Matthew Benton and consultant Matt Jernigan.
